As we approach the last two holidays of 2022 and ring in 2023, let's take a moment to reflect on the last 12 months. It's time to truly slow down...
Set yourself to "Do Not Disturb" and find that quality time with those that you love. Remember them? In the midst of the industry chaos that we hustle through each day, it can be easy to forget about what's truly important.
Every week has flashed by to the point of quantum confusion for most of us. Hours and days worth of self tape set ups, last minute readers, and non union negotiations take an incredible toll. To the point of cognitive exhaustion. I don't know about you, but I (for a split second) forgot how to really speak to people in public. Catching my Performance Voice dropping in during the most menial of conversations. Why? Because I'm still on and ready. I had forgotten how to be myself in all of the prep work I buried myself in.
Funny enough, all it took was a bad cup of diner coffee and a couple of friends to pull me out of it. A late night trip to a local spot full of greasy satisfaction and questionable clientele became the Great Land of Oz. Before long, we were reminiscing about more than just our daily regimen. There was an honesty to this conversation that brought all of us down to the core essence of who we are. This being a very long winded way of saying, be true to yourself outside of what you do.
We love this job and this industry, but what is it if we have nothing on the other end?
So here's my Ted talk. Gather with those you love and create those memories to look back on. Life is more than just this job, and it can be easy to forget that!
